Lily gets to know everyone one of the Boatwright sisters...TM... MS Varsity Football is UNDEFEATED!!!!
Lily arrives at the Boatwright house, and lies her way through her first meeting with the sisters. She says that her mom is dead, her dad is dead, she's going to see her aunt in Richmond, and that Rosaleen wasn't beaten but tripped.

- Lily learns about the Black Madonna of Breznichar in Bohemia
- Lily visits Mr.Forrest's office with Zach to give the lawyer honey and calls her father, asking him what her favorite color is.
- Lily goes with August on bee patrol and when August lifts the lid of a hive, the bees spin around them, making Lily feel like she was floating in a different world.
- Lily writes a letter to TRay but then rips it up
- Lily tells what she loves (Rosaleen, writing stories, Coca-cola with salted peanuts, the color blue, and August) and August tells her that in the Eskimo language there are 32 ways to say love

Ch. 10 - TH, EK

A bee's life is but short. During spring and summer- the most strenous periods of foraging-a worker bee, as a rule, does not live more than four or five weeks...Threatened by all kinds of dangers during their foraging slights, many workers die before they have reached even that age. |
- After May hears about Zach, shes very upset and runs out of the house. She goes to the river and commits suicide.
- The sisters contact the police and Lily lies to police about her backround. The policeman also tells her that she is lowering herself by staying in this house.
- Zach gets out of jail.
- They have the Vigil for May's death. The daughters of Mary join.
- August finds May's suicide note telling her sisters to keep on living because it's there time to live.
